Meet the Teacher Success!!

Wow, what an amazing Meet the Teacher day to kickstart our 2015-2016 school year! We had a great turnout of new, smiling Second Grade Surfers!! Would you like to learn a little more about Mrs. Evans? Click here to read about my wonderful family and my educational career.

If you were unable to attend, don't worry! Here are some cool things the students got to do during their hour of fun. We labeled school supplies (I'll help you Monday if you weren't at school), we wrote about what your favorite observation was in my classroom so far, and also students took a 2015-16 Back To School Star Surfer Survey. Last year students were challenged to read 40 books. This year...I challenge you to SEVENTY books by the end of the year! Can you do it? Here's our wall to prove it!

Saved the best for last...my real SURF BOARDS from San Diego (we have 2 in our room). Do you like the beach? I hope so because you're going to be a star surfer for the next 10 months! We are going to have a blast together. Get ready for a wild ride surfing into second grade!

End of Year Celebrations!

Wow! Can you believe summer is already 3 weeks in and it's almost July 4th? As I cleaned and organized our Star Surfer classroom the past few weeks, the halls were empty. The classroom was so quiet (way too quiet) that it really made me reflect on our year. We had such an amazing classroom and I was truly sad to loose my group of kind, loving and inquisitive 2nd graders. My little ones worked so hard and grew a tremendous amount in just 9 months. Here is a compilation of the last few weeks of hard work and dedication from our 2014-15 Star Surfers!!

During our science and literacy block, each group was able to choose a cultural version of Cinderella and teams began reading these detailed, higher-level books. Some had multiple story lines and took much thought and focus to understand all of the parts. I am very proud of the teams for working through the books and then we learned about the iMovie app on our iPads. Teams created their very own IMovie book trailer to showcase their fairy tale book. During our reading and writing block the last month of school, students were given an animal team task.  Teams selected an animal, researched their habitat, physical characteristics, predators/prey, life cycle and jaw-dropping facts. Teams created a Google Presentation on our Chromebooks. We presented these to the class the last week of school!

Petsitting fun!

       

We definitely love our class pets; 2 guinea pigs named Snickers and Butterfinger. But when we had a long weekend recently, one of our wonderful families volunteered to petsit. Aekas and Aekam had a wonderful time feeding and entertaining our furry friends for 3 days! I love that we even got pictures to go with this exciting event! Thank you to our family for loving and taking great care of our little guys!

Hi my name is Gabriel. I’m going to tell you about myself!! my favorite color is blue. My favorite thing to do is learn math. My favorite subject is art and I love painting and the color will be red. I like to do writer’s workshop. I like read at my house and at school. My favorite food is pizza.

We just got a class pet 2 weeks ago. There are 2 guinea pigs in our cage.

We went bowing for our Forces and Motion unit and I learned that when there's no friction from the bumpers and the ball goes straight, the speed was faster!

Hi my name is Chase and I am in second grade. I like Minecraft and we get to play it every Thursday in the computer lab. I have a dog named Leia. I have a cat named Maddy. My sister is Kendall and she's in kindergarten. In second grade, my favorite thing to do is math. Do you like dogs like Leia because she is cute!
